For the longest time, I used to hate onions. One time working at a hockey game in a stadium, I was super hungry, my co-worker offered to buy me a hotdog if I pay him back later. I loaded that fucking hotdog with every condiment on the stand, sauerkraut, peppers, the onions. After that I fucking love onions.

I believe the disconnect is the fact that our definition of a nerd is different.
My definition of someone who is a nerd, is someone who's interest fall under the category of "nerdy"
For example comic books, Anime, video games, sciffi/fantasy, academics, etc
While your definition of a nerd seems to be more derogatory, like there are hopeless loser
And using derogatory terms to canvas entire group of people generally makes you look like either an asshole or someone who's narrowminded.
