I personally think that we should legalize medical cannabis first then push for recreational reform second. It's more important to get the the drug out to people who need it then to people who want to use it for fun.
I can't see why we can't push for both at the same time, but if it comes to it - medicinal reasons are more important.
But then what counts as medicinal use? Sure, for physical problems like multiple sclerosis marijuana would and already has been prescribed for, but what about those with depression or insomnia for example? I'm sure those type of conditions could be faked and therefore - weed for all anyway.
It should be legalized to just do for fun. We already have enough issues from smoking and drinking. Medicinal use if used for that reason should be ok. Saying "Lets legalize pot for fun use" is going to lead to permitting crack, heroine, and ecstasy. While some of these drugs were in fact invented for a purpose are too dangerous. Drugs like meth that keep you awake was invented to keep people working for longer hours. Legalizing these drugs is going to send us down a slippery slope. If you noticed some places are trying to slowly get rid of cigarettes. Drugs on the black list are on it for a reason. They were deemed to harmful to be permitted. They tried removing drinking but that failed.
