A customer at work said "let me ask you a question since you look the same generation as me..."

He talked about trends when he was in high school but he's 38 im 26.

Was he implying I look 38?? Because I never thought I looked older than my age, most think I'm younger and ask me what university I'm studying in even though I graduated..

Normal for a man 12 years older than me to think I'm his generation??

A "generation" spans approximately 30 years. Quit trying to be offended.

It's very "in" these days to be offended.

I've always been crap at judging the ages of people, and I generally lump everyone in the categories of kids, teens, young adults, a huge middle-aged category, and old. I suspect that when I was 38, I just might have considered a 26 year-old as being roughly the same age as me.

It's also the case that people often think of themselves as still being a younger version of themselves. That's one of the reasons why guys in their fifties feel no shame about chasing after women in their early twenties. In the guys' heads - and regardless of what's on their driving licence or what they see in the mirror - they're still in their early thirties.

The customer making this comment may say something about what's going on in his head, but nothing much about how you look. Therefore, it's really not something you should worry about.

Maybe he needs his eyes tested or he's just terrible at assessing other people's age: don't worry about it

He was flirting. Basically, he was implying he was as young as you but failed.

There are many middle-aged people who don't show signs of aging 'til they get into their mid-40s and 50s... he probably thought you were one of those.
