Is it normal of me to feel like 90%% of North Americans have lost the TRUE meaning of Christmas?!?! Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too commercialized!!!! Gets worse every year. Do you people agree or think I'm just some nut? Am I normal for believing we have destroyed Christmas and have pretty much lost the true meaning behind it????

I know that christmas was really about competing with pagan festivals. We have no idea when jesus was born!

Political correctness, advertising are the primary culprits for deteriorating Christmas. Being I am one of the lucky few who work on Christmas Day, I could give two shits anymore.
I think I need to rephase that ^ I like christmas, but not because I receive gifts.
I don't really like Christmas because I recive gifts. I like giving gifts. Of course I don't spend all my money, but I'm more of a giver, then a reciever.
I mean I am tired of stores advertising for Christmas before Halloween is even here! And it seems like everyone has to spend soooo much more money now at Christmas time than in the old days. I even hear adds here on the radio for Christmas Loans, for frig sakes! People go into debt for it!
As Leah said, it's not about what other people do with something, it's what you do with it yourself. You don't have to lose sight of what it means to you.
I think you'll find that it's still a festival of deep religious meaning for many, even though others see it as a time for celebrating with parties and gift giving being the core.
There's nothing wrong with either point of view.
Our profit first society means that there is no celebration, religious or otherwise, which hasn't been commercialised.
why worry about who's lost it, the true meaning is for the individual. I use to raise money for kings daughters for years with neighborhood kids wearing santa hats and caroling. we'd go to my house for silly kid games afterwards- the neighbors would join in so I know the true meaning but now it doesn't mean shit because I'm depressed, lost the love of my life and i don't want to see it this year..don't watch tv so i don't see commercials--i'll be alone and it will be very hard-- who cares what others do , it's an indiviual thing.moneys scarce it's the thought that counts and traditions that are made by each family.
