I guess nature could be some of it, because I've known how even babies can get more scared by looking at an ugly face than a good looking face, and they're not old enough to understand the influence from the beauty industry and how the media tells us how we should look. However, some white babies may also get scared off by a black face, or a black baby getting scared by a white face, so you can't just blame society and the beauty industry for adults being shallow, people still must learn as they grow up how to still respect someone no matter how they look whether it's color or attractiveness.
