Living in a fantasy world.

I've always been a very imaginative person, and I hardly had any friends when I was younger until grade 5/6. I always read fantasy books and wished that I could just slip into one and live there instead. I was/am obsessed with the Lord of the Rings and I've always wished I could live in Middle Earth and it depresses me to realize how horrid this world is compared to that one (in my opinion). I've also always wanted to be an elf (and a pirate, weird.. maybe) and fantasize about it at night and I think about all the things I'd do if I was one..

Is it normal to wish I lived in a fantasy world and to want to be an elf/pirate?

I always fantasize about meeting the Akatsukis from Naruto Shippuden and the Arrancars from Bleach

I got obsessed with LOTR too at one point. I think its normal because it provides a psychological escape from this world when things get rough or people let you down. You can imagine a more pleasant world how you want it with peace and justice etc which doesn't exist in this world. I think it is a coping strategy and a form of escape to retreat into a safe fantasy world where you can control things and nothing can hurt you. It's normal as long as you can still relate to people and care about people in the real world.

I'd say it's normal. Anyone who says they haven't ever fantasized about living in another world is lying.

I for one have always wanted, and always will, to live in the One Piece world (manga by Oda Eiichiro, go read it! Or watch the anime). Seeing their (Luffy and his crew) amazing adventures just makes me wish I had been born in that world. The places they see, the people they meet, the bonds they make, the creatures they see...everything is just amazing in that world. Sure, it's a dangerous world too in a lot of ways and they could die at any time, but how's that any different from the real world? They on the other hand get to be free, and by that I mean FREE. No one tells them what to do, they just let the wind (and in this case their log pose) take them wherever it pleases. They're not tied down by employment, bills, debts and whatever else I don't like about this world; they are truly FREE.

That kinda became a long post, but I often fantasize about living in the One Piece world and being a pirate in it. It's just my kind of world.

TL;DR If I were to be given a choice to remain in this world or go to the One Piece world I'd choose the latter. Nuff said.

  • YES, IT IS NORMAL!!!
I really wish I could see you right now, just to speak to someone who is exactly like me. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. LOTR is a world of love, friendship and bravery, and if I could suddenly transport myself there, I would without hesitation. I LIVE in Middle-earth, virtually. I am writing a fantasy book, too. But some day we shall meet in Middle-earth, my friend! :D

Yes its perfectly normal, I too would love to live in the world of fantasy. I dont know if you like role playing games but dungeons and dragons is a great way to let loose once in a while.

wow theres other ppl that went through that too? i went through that with LOTR and Robert Jordans the Wheel of time series. i actually had to stop reading the wheel of time cause i was getting addicted to the book; i started caring more about the charachters in the books than real ppl in my own life.

Oh I know what you mean! I'm obsessed with the Lord of the Rings, I always have been. And I'm currently reading the Wheel of Time series actually, I can't believe I didn't want to read them before, they're amazing! I even named my new kitten Perrin. It's too bad Jordan died before he finished the series.

I am writing a book right now actually. Well, I have it all written down beginning to end but I just have to add all the stuff in between. When I was in writer's craft last year I was being lazy and just gave my teacher a condensed version of it for my novelette and she said it was great and I should look into getting it published, so I think I might. But you need an agent and all that B.S. first or publishers won' look at your stuff anymore. My name's Samantha.
