  • I believe in Heaven, but I really hope there will be dogs and cats there! Sometimes I really hope reincarnation is real.

    • Have you ever read this Rose.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in your dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

  • I lean towards no, but there is no logic to us being alive in the first place and the universe is so fucking strange, I wouldn't hazzard a definitive answer. My gut says when you are dead, you are worm food and that's it.

    • I'm going to be cremated so the worms will have to feast on something else. But alas, my gut says the same thing. To believe we go up to some magic kingdom in the sky is not reality. May as well enjoy life now. It's the only one we'll ever get. Just my opinion.

  • I used to believe in reincarnation but now I think we just die with the brain:(

  • I think there is life after death because two days after my dog Muffy died of old age she visited me in my dream where she was young and playful again and she still pops up in my dreams now and then to let me know she is still around in spirit form. Her visits make me feel like we're never apart but I know I'll always miss her. She was a great dog and friend.

  • You're born you live and you die just like every life form on the planet. Enjoy life. You only get one shot.

    • Correct. We'd all love to believe in some idyllic afterlife where we retain our personalities and live in peace and harmony with our loved ones for all eternity. Now I'd like that. But that shit's not the truth. We are biological organisms who live and then die. So enjoy it while you can.

  • I'd say definitely not. We know now that our consciousness resides in our brain, the idea of the soul came from a time before we discovered that, when we didn't know much at all about how life worked and where life came from.

Also people talk about all those near death experiences where people claim to have seen the other side as serious evidence. But the human brain is prone to hallucinations at the best of times, nevermind at a time where it's been through so much trauma and is now so close to death. In fact scientists think they now know the exact chemical that causes those hallucinations, it's called DMT. It's a hallucinogen that occurs naturally in the brain, that's often accidentally released during times of injury to the brain.

    • I agree. We'd all like to believe in an idyllic afterlife where we retain our personalities and live in paradise with our loved ones for all eternity. But that's not reality and reality is really all that matters. Pretty much all religions are based on the fear coming to an end. Of our loved ones coming to an end. That being said, if religion gives people comfort, then I see no harm in it. The problem lies in violent fundamentalists who use religion as a weapon. Religion has been the primary source of untold misery to the human race since the beginning of recorded history and this is due to fundamentalism.

  • I dunno, I guess I'll find out at some point.
If there is an afterlife, I do hope they got whiskey, rock and roll and Mercedes-es there...

  • As an Agnostic, I should have checked "I don't know". But, many people who have their heart stop, and then started again by a defibrillator talk about a tunnel that they traveled thru for the minute or so that they were dead. This is not anything that is mentioned in the scriptures of any religion. There is a very peaceful light at the end of the tunnel. So, the evidence points to Yes.

  • Actually I have asked the very same question but I still beleive that there is no heaven or hell. Fairy tails doesn't exist in the real world but there is a life after death that's for sure

  • When I die I'm going to be broken down, swarmed and consumed by all manner of creatures. No preservation for me. I want to decompose. My answer is still yes and here's why: I was created in my father and mother, I have grown with millions of cells replicating and dying constantly inside me. The tiny infant that grew from the small cells has been broken down over decades and reformed into who i am today.

When I die I'm going back into a vast and ancient system of energy exchanges. I'm going to live and die in other forms for as long as this continues, because that's what is means to exist as an organism that consumes and is consumed constantly. My identity today won't be the same in a thousand years, but everything that comes from me and my ideas here and now are all a direct result of my will.

After I die it's not up to me what happens, but my energy will pass on into everything and that's beautiful. I don't know if we have souls or if it's just plasma, but I think it all matters. Waiting for a different life to be at peace just seems silly to me, like saying you'll do it tomorrow. So death is final, except when it's not (like being revived) and we just keep moving on when it is. This is mostly factual at least.

  • Maybe. None of us knows for sure and only a fool can claim that he/she does know for sure (sadly, there are many like that). I live the life to both enjoy it and make it more enjoyable for others. I value the life I have and don't even think about afterlife. If it's there then I shall see it when the time comes.
I think people should be thinking more about the present that dreaming of some far and unknown future. But maybe the dreaming part is living the present in it's own way as well.
