Rap - Black guys talking about their "bitches"
Pop - Music someone else wrote lip-synced by someone popular so that people buy the music. The music becomes popular because girls are payed to scream in a video, all girls want to be popular so they pretend to like it, and guys think they can get girls if they like it.

Neither are liked for music, but rather how cool/popular the artist is for other purposes. Some rap is ok if it's not the kind about killing people they don't like or just about some "hot bitches". Some pop is ok if it's not influenced by corporate big-wigs trying to make money of their artist's popularity (if you want proof, you can see that tons of pop artists were famous for something else before they went into music). The comment about rap being poetic, my reply is: I've read the lyrics, and except for Eminem, most rappers just rap about gang activity and violence, also the aforementioned "hot bitches".

I like rock because no rock stars were famous before music, because the lyrics are written by them (sometimes they do lyrics by a fan, but not very often) they sing about girls in ways other than just sex (rap) and not only about girls/boys (pop). And because in rock, drug use isn't for gangs (rap) and isn't because of "celebrity drama" (pop). i.e. The Beatles did pills to stay awake (1962), pot because it's harmless (~1964) and LSD to write lyrics (~1966) and Ozzy does coke because he's Ozzy and does whatever the hell he wants.
