Kids dating in 6th grade is basically playing pretend. you just kind of pick somebody and agree that you're "dating" and it lasts a week or 2. 6th graders are also stupid and haven't developed personalities yet so they tend to think everyone should all be doing exactly the same things.

I know people my age (40's) who jump into a relationship and it doesn't last more than a week or two. It ain't just kids.

Yep this. It's all a game and attention seeking. Nobody actually gets strong feelings or has good sex at that age. It literally childs play.
