I actually think that it was for the best that you did not stop immediately. If you had, then the kids might have gotten the impression that sex is something wrong and shameful, which could have caused them to be sexually repressed. It is important to teach kids that sex is something to be taken seriously, but acting like they caught you doing something wrong is not a good idea.
