Not really. The Karma system promotes some sort of same-think community where if you say something that is considered controversial by the community then they can down vote you which effects your ability to use the site.
Essentially it's intentions is for people who are helpful to be rewarded however it didn't consider that it would also mean that people that say things that others dislike will be be punished simply for not thinking like them.
I'd much rather be part of a community that has a few trolls rather than be in one where I feel like I have to be careful what I say because some people won't like that I or others don't think like them.
Finally, someone who can disagree with my comment respectfully and intelligently. You make a good point about feeling free to say whatever you want, but honestly, I think the IIN community is pretty open-minded and won't downvote just because someone thinks differently. For example, I won't downvote your comment even though I have a different opinion. I don't downvote unless a comment is blindly hateful or obviously a troll (and even then I won't downvote if it contains a remote sense of humor or effort).
Well I dunno. I know there are a lot of people who won't downvote for immature reasons but when I was a lot more talkative on this site which meant I expressed my views which differed from the political views of others on here I got downvoted quite often. It does happen, maybe not all the time but it can happen, and I don't think it's fair.
I've been on this site long enough for it not effect my account but I just imagine some new users wouldn't have such an easy time. Lol. :)
Karma system needs to go. agree or disagree?
