Just wondering, is the word "woah" a good thing, a bad thing or both?

Well I'm curious about this word because there have been quite a lot of people who say different things. Some say it means like shocking, some say it's totally a good thing like epic, others say it can be interpreted both ways (bad or good, depending on what the person was feeling about a particular situation.

It's 100% a good thing 4
It's 100% a bad thing 1
It's both ( can mean good and or bad depending on the situation) 45
It means awesome/amazing 1
It's another word for surprise, so it can be a bad or good thing 21
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

    That depends.

If you know you've gained a lot of weight since your BF has been gone because you let yourself go, got depressed and met Ben and Jerry but you think he won't notice after being deployed for the past 6 months and you go to JC Penny and buy a frilly coochie skirt and a tube top and meet him at his homecoming dinner at his favorite restaurant, "Awesome Fucking Steakhouse" or some shit and you RUN towards him when you see him, wrap your arms around his waist, shout his name, let go, and look into his beautiful baby blue eyes and the first word that comes out of his mouth is

    "Whoa"

That might be a bad thing.

    • im not meaning that sort of woah LOL

  • It depends on the context. Usually I use it in a joking way.

    "Woah! Calm down broseph!"

Like jucedaguy says, "Whoa" means to stop. You'd use it in other contexts when something is shocking you or anything really that you'd want to stop or slow down.

          • Dat why I'd have to be there. It sounds like it could be an awkward "Whoa *laugh*" or a surprised "Whoa *laugh*".

And how dare you mock me with your 'lol!" lol.
            ;P
