Jordan peterson

I have no idea how Jordan Peterson is a controversial character. He seems very normal to me and the things he speaks about often are not even political. I find his teaching to be very interesting and he teaches you how to live your life in a healthy way. I have actually went out of my way to find a controversial clip of him and did not find one. The only one that could even halfway be controversial is he said he does not believe in making laws to enforce gender pronouns although he'd use them in private to be nice.

So when I first started looking for college psych classes on YouTube, I found his. You know what I saw?

The man walks around the room looking down at students with his nose somehow still in the air. His tone was coming from an ivory tower as he paced in front of the class.

He wound up in an argument with someone, they were using their phone or something minor. He ended up saying he's the law of the land in that classroom and how everyone will do what he says or they'll fail or be removed from class

The very next clip of his class, I shit you not, the camera was affixed to his podium pointed straight up into his nose and he makes this speech about how the board or whatever is making him stand still at his podium and his job is to teach and nothing more

He's smart, he knows psychology and people, but he doesn't seem able to look at himself in that same analytical light. He never saw what a power hungry dick he was being, or even looked like.

He's one of those people I would say has succumbed to the dogma of the type of work he did. He acts like because of his knowledge he's incapable of wrong doing. He acts like if he does something then it's the only way it could be/could have been done

Then a few years later I see him on the news, he's talking about refusing to use preferred pronouns and blah blah blah. All anyone knows about this guy is that he says what a good portion thinks. Everyone thinks he's great and that only adds to his belief that he's superior.

He's not someone to model yourself after, not to learn from. You're either going to get or reinforce existing mental problems

He's the child who got in trouble for eating cookies so he knocked the jar on the floor so he could eat a few without being found out

    • Sounds like he just told a kid to not use his phone in a smartass way. Isnt that every teacher?

Can you send me the clip of the podium thing? I still dont see the big deal. He is kind of weird but this is a guy that has been protested over. I dont see why hes so controversial still.

      • I mean, my biggest issue with it is he's teaching and presenting his own philosophies in psychology and he's exhibiting self serving instant gratification techniques on people he has authority over

To me, that takes away from his credibility. I can see how some would feel invigorated by that, but that's not for me

      • I just looked for it but I couldn't find it. I saw it 2017/2018, it was before he became "famous"

It was more like he was taking the time to talk down to people than having someone put their phone away, and he was very bitter in his speech about it

      • I guess you'd have to see the videos. Maybe I'll find em later

He was a real dick though, clearly dick swinging. And I mean the classes were recorded for YouTube, the school probably got complaints and they watched them

I'll look for them, I may have them in my favorites or whatever

    • That's normal for a teacher, probably a missing trait for many teachers. He takes his work seriously and expects people asking for his time to take his time seriously. A lack of that behaviour from the teacher allows shitty behaviours from students.

      • Power trips are not normal. There's gotta be a reason those class videos were deleted too. I was able to find the class of another professor who I found mentally healthy

        • Asserting dominance so that your role is respected should be though. Sometimes asserting power to maintain your power is justified, this seems like one of those times but I've not seen the footage so can only go from how you described it, maybe it's worse than the image I have in my head.

          • And it's not just me who thought that. Literally the next video of his class the camera is on his podium pointed up into his nose, he said he was told not to pace back and forth in front of the class, he said he was told not to punish people or whatever, every video for the rest of the semester he parked his ass by that podium and toned down his aggression and played up, albeit all in an obviously forced way, his teacher persona

          • It definitely was. I wish I had the video.

Have you ever seen office space?

"Yeah, if you could put your phone away, that'd be great" but with the vocabulary of a professor and a twinge more on arrogance

Jordan Peterson stands alone from the crowd for one reason and one reason only… He teaches people HOW to think (for themselves) not WHAT to think for selective or divisive narratives.

The man is a literal fraud for gullible people and most of what he says is garbage

Fraud implies hes lying and knows it. His advice is pretty rational, so I dont see what garbage you are seeing.

    • Idk how hes a "fraud" hes a legitimate professor. I dont think that insult is very accurate for him. And you'd have to break down what in particular he says is garbage.
