so i was doing a comparison between the genesis and the european mega drive and i noticed my European mega drive was slower. is that normal?
Yeah, the European Mega Drive is slower than the American Genesis. The European Mega Drive runs at 50hz, where as the American Genesis runs at 60hz. I'm not entirely sure exactly what that means or why, but that's the reason anyway.
It means that the Sega Genesis is capable of running games at 10 frames per second faster than the Mega Drive. Since the games are old, they probably were designed to run at the rate the device could display them at, so the Mega Drive's game would run at 5/6 the speed of the Genesis. I'd assume that if you modified a modern pc to play Genesis/Mega Drive cartridges, the games would play at the rate the pc could send the data to the monitor.
