If people don't want to be taken literally they should learn to use the english language correctly and not say all when they mean most. It's lazy and pointless: what's so hard about saying what you mean?
There are very few people who speak literally 100% of the time. I don't believe I have ever met anyone who has never made a non literal statement. People do not need to change the way the language is spoken in practice because of you inability to exercise common sense.
Oh for goodness sake, can't you see the difference between an ordinary conversation and someone trying to make a point in a debate?
I might say it's raining cats & dogs and everyone knows it isn't, but if I say ALL dogs and cats bite and scratch babies, that's obviously supposed to be a statement of fact, not a figure of speech.
End of conversation on my part, bc if you can't get that clear difference after this number of exchanges I'll save my time & energy for something more productive
Obviously you can't understand the difference between a debate and non debate statement, because when Short4words made the comment you responded to, it wasn't really a debate comment. But I think that I have been clear that debate or not, common sense applies.
