Isitnormal to think everyone is depressed, or am i normalising depression?

bellow are details regarding my question, but they are not necessary to read in order to answer, and might just confuse or depress you!.. read with discretion.

*SoB*

you see, I can feel the seeds of depression inside me. and I know there is a global societal issue regarding mental health, and lastly, I actually believe people all have very similar speks. we have consciousness, free will, and we all struggle. in this world that has reached levels of advancement beyond one's wildest understanding, I believe we have reached a point where we can not forever avoid what has always been inside all of us. The Void.
we have to find meaning for our own life. we hold responsibility, yet are also somehow disconnected from the simplicity of existence. i think we just live in a very complex world, with many many layers, words and words and words WORDS, and things that just happen! and I think we are all depressed, because we think, and we think we know things, but mostly we struggle and we do not understand what the hell is going on. and there's more. there's many things we do not want to believe, even though at the end of the day we just wanna believe..... there's a paradox hidden in human existence. a great paradox. it's always there, here, and time keeps moving forwards- loss in unavoidable, but we have to keep going. we have to keep living.
..

ps
ok, I understand I'm being a bit melodramatic. I believe life is simple but I am human, and I can think it complex and make countless stories out of it (I am a storyteller aa.)

pss
insects are high all the time, and so am I
(thanks for reading)

I am too tired to answer now, but I will return in a day
Also I think we just perceive it differently, because we’re used to the pain and seeing it in others. Our mind kind of tricks us into thinking they’re that miserable too when in reality we can’t ever know because the percentage of people we see in our everyday lives is nothing compared to the rest of the world. And when you’re like that u have a lot of people with those issues around u and focus on that topic. No seriously I need to stop I’ll finish it later

I was thinking that today on the bus home. I felt absolutely miserable for college reasons and i saw that the (really cute) guy next to me also looked miserable and everyone else on the bus also looked sad and lonely

shit :( well, I could play it devil's advocate and say that you were maybe projecting your feelings on to other people, but.... dam. that sounds like an actual thing I can imagine. for me, even if people talk, or dance, or sit in tables with family, they can still seem lonely. lol

Nah I don’t believe everyone is depressed, there are some people who are living like heaven on earth bro

yes but do they understand what they are living?.. heaven counts for nothing if not seen by a human soul, and a human soul is something that takes a LOT of effort to maintain fresh and pure. in that regard, people that are living heaven on earth deserve it, caz they must put in some effort

      at least me thinks

I would say that not everyone is depressed, that is a ridiculous claim. It's very common, but that's far from everyone having it. Life is hard in different ways for everyone, but it's how well you handle the challenges of life that determine if your depressed. I am not depressed however I used to be. You could maybe say that everyone will be depressed at some point in their life, but there is no way everyone is depressed at this moment.

I never claimed that, the author claimed that haha
Just saying that we think others must be feeling like shit too in that kinda, or a similar situation or just being alive
I have trouble understanding the will to live, especially in bad times or in stories that basically fuck with their characters all the time. For example in GoT I was at some point questioning why they stay alive, I mean die and u don’t suffer anymore. I know it’s not real and there are many variables, but just a situation like that. But at the same time I know most people don’t wanna die, even though I don’t understand it

Alright the second thing I wanted to mention
Nowadays more people go into the open with their feelings, it’s more acceptable than it was back in the days.
We may have more things, but we’re also more vulnerable to stress. Many factors, though it’s probably not that much higher compared to the past
I understand why u feel this way
All people do is work and have children, repeat, gloomy faces, crowds that move like machines and you’re own deep hole that sees the same hole in those faces

Well that's quite opposite of how I see things. I don't see how anyone loses the will to live, because there is always an opportunity for things to get better moving forward. However, I was mildly suicidal when I was in early high school but that was because of sexual things not really because I didn't enjoy my life. I think purpose in life is what keeps people going in times of depression. For me it was lifting weights and pursing women, as long as I could do those things I would look forward to everyday and get excited. That plus enjoying the little things in life like food, music, masterbation and of course funny things like this site and steven crowder you tube videos.

The bad things outweigh the good ones
U don’t wanna know how many people I know tried and did commit suicide
When ur in that deep u can’t enjoy the little things mate. Of course never compare yourself, just sometimes the will is gone but u still have to continue
Anyways the point was, people see things differently but ultimately project their emotions onto others
Also once u start feeling that or noticing it, you’ll be more aware of if it’s happening on the outside. That had a word too. Haa my memory now

Haa what i was saying is, u feel and felt something. U then see a person and the emotions attached to u deeply, are the ones u associate to whatever the person is going through
Meaning if u have a good outlook on life, u won’t think that many are depressed cuz ur feeling better. When a depressed person sees others, after a while of dealing with it they’ll think all the others suffer too. Not all of them, but I know a few

A CDC study estimated that around 15% of Americans will be clinically depressed at some point in their lives.

That figure surprised me, since I thought it would be higher.

Wut? That sounds extremely low. Maybe that's just the ones that actually get diagnosed?

          • zarabell

to be honest I wouldn't trust no research on the matter, or I would take it with a grain of salt and assume it to only be a small part of the bigger picture. so basically that 15% might be close to accurate, but that would probably only be a statistic of the people actually diagnosed, right?

What time frame is required to be clinically depressed? Everyone has something real bad happen once, like death of a family member. I guess some people are psychopaths so maybe they wouldn't ever be depressed.

Situational depression != clinical depression, although there is some controversy over this ATM since the DSM V changed some of that. Generally, symptoms are diagnosed over two weeks IIRC.

Certainly not normal and you probably don't know what depression is but a lot of people are depressed, it's far from always visible. Feeling down in the dumps and being depressed are far from the same thing and everyone feels down in periods as life goes up and down.

but I think even tho life might be "shit" in some definitions of the word, it should be possible to face it all without losing yourself to depression.

For more about paradoxes and the meaning of life, see absurdism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absurdism

I'm a nihilist personally, and I don't really agree with that philosophy, but whatever.

Also, to answer your question, most people are in fact not depressed, and I'm not sure why you'd assume that.

the wording might have been bad. what I meant by depressed is that we all have the possibility of becoming, what I called 'the Seed'.. of course there may be many people that will not awaken their depression, or that have lived their lives so far without, but I do still believe we can all feel the worst of it.. (unless we are blessed with some mental disability, maybe)
so I wouldn't say people are all depressed at THIS moment, but depression is inside them. it might be working behind the scenes..

i dont know. tnx for answering my question anyway. the two weeks thing you said above seems reasonable for Clinical Depression, but that's not all depression is, right? what I am talking about is a simpler state which I see as Universal
