  • War is the result of bargaining failures and incomplete information. Countries have a tendency to give off costly signals to make it seem like they are stronger than they are. For example say country A 5 units "strong" and country B is 1 unit "strong". If country B came out and said okay we are weaker than you then the two countries could come to an agreement and avoid war. But that's not how it usually happens. Country B will mobilize troops and invade surrounding countries to make it SEEM like there are 5 units strong causing A to feel threatened and less secure causing war. At this point war is the only way to reveal the true information about the two countries. War will continue until we come up with a way to see complete information about countries and when they are bluffing.
War is more complicated than this of course but this is one theory in international relations.
