  • Vampires derived from earlier human beings who weren't medically advanced enough to put a diagnosis on diseases such as porphyria so they blamed it on the supernatural and accused them of being vampires or werewolves. They are still finding skulls and skeletons that have a stone in the mouth or a stake through the chest because people feared they would get back up and become a member of "the undead".So no. I don't think they're a metaphor. Vampires have evolved much throughout history. But, I will not deny, the idea sounds reasonable.

Watch "Vampire Secrets" it is the best vampire documentary I've seen (best documentary I've seen) but it will give you a good inside look into where the idea of vampires came from and their evolution.
