Great question. I guess the fact that they knowingly made their personal information available to anyone on line means they can not expect privacy. In that sense you are doing research on information the person has chosen to make very public.
That you feel uncomfortable, even creepy about it, suggests you have better boundaries around what is public and what is private. It also maybe means you should just talk to them directly if you are interested, instead of sneaking through internet profiles.
