Is this internet stalking?

Ok I have a habit of, when I like a girl, to look her up on Myspace/Facebook to try and figure out if she has a boyfriend or not. Like most profiles are private, so I'll check to see if they have another guy in the pic with them, or if their status says something that insinuates a boyfriend I just assume they are taken. Sometimes if it's a myspace profile and it's open, I'll look through the pictures a little. I mean is that like internet stalking or something? I'm just trying to figure out if they have someone so I don't waste my time/embarrass myself... well aside from the pictures thing.

Hell yeah. Facebook is made for stalking, isn't it? Assume whatever you put up, has gone global. To your friends, and not so friendlies .

Nah, I think it's not stalking. If you were obsessively looking at all their profiles and all that crap, then yes. But you just don't want to make a fool out of yourself. I find that to be completely understandable.

So long as you aren't going back to the same persons page over and over its not stalking.

Dude, this sounds like stalking. Just ask the girl if she has a boyfriend. If these girls find out that you are doing this (which is very hard to do), you are screwed. Good Luck!

i think u may be a littloe paranoid, u rule them out just cause they have a guy in the pic? what if that's a friend? or a brother? but i guess it's ok to want to know if she's in a relationship.. but u should judge better

it's not that internet it's not stalking it's just that what u do is not stalking cause u can stalk bi internet most people do.. but now, if u started checkin her status profile etc very often and getting into places u shouldnt.. THAT's stalking

  • Great question. I guess the fact that they knowingly made their personal information available to anyone on line means they can not expect privacy. In that sense you are doing research on information the person has chosen to make very public.

That you feel uncomfortable, even creepy about it, suggests you have better boundaries around what is public and what is private. It also maybe means you should just talk to them directly if you are interested, instead of sneaking through internet profiles.

Yes and no. It's normal to look through a stranger's profile, if only to formulate an opinion of them. It's a little weird that you rule out women who have guys on their page. You should allow space for other men. Acting obsessive may only end up scaring others away.
