The solution is simpler than you think: if you feel uncomfortable doing something, then don't do it. If you feel that taking a walk in the forest is a little too "intimate" for your taste, then you need to tell her that you much prefer to talk over coffee at the local Starbucks or something.
The other thing is you need to think about how you feel towards her. If you can keep it strictly platonic, good for you, but if not, there could be trouble with your army friend. I'm a conservative man and I wouldn't take away my friend's girl, but if your feelings are strong enough, you could always go for it.
On the other hand, you might just be a little paranoid. She might be cool with the whole thing. For some girls, a walk in the woods alone with a boy is a very big thing while for others, it's no big deal at all.
is this "friendship" ok?
