Is there a word for this?

Seeing as this has happened to me a few times now, I feel there should be a word for this phenomenon: when you start having a crush on someone on the internet thinking they are the opposite gender ( if you are straight) and then you find out they are the same gender as you.

Or what if you get really friendly with someone thinking they are the same gender, then you realise they are opposite gender and you go crazy for them.

Or people who confuse you by their nickname of avatar picture being of the opposite gender.

Any new internet words for such phenomena?

      Only if it's on purpose.
      And if your tricking someone to fall in love with you. Catfish like in the movie or tv shows.
      I assumed the op was referring to crushes that happen and the other person was not purposfully misleading.

    I often make that mistake on here. I have mistakenly assumed many are guys, but turn out to be girls. Looking back, after being informed of my error, I don't see how I should have known, in many cases.
