Is the song " wap " empowering, or objectifying?

Cardi B claims that the song " WAP " Is female empowerment. I disagree, I think it's 100% objectification.

It's empowering 6
It's objectifying 23

How should this particular song affect anyone…?

That song is responsible for making me think that early 2010s music maybe wasn't so bad after all.

I’d say it depends on how you look at it the song is just about one thing I.e “WAP”
But ,it’s Also about woman controlling the narrative about their bodies.

I thought B was funny and outspoken for years. Turns out her brother raped an under age family member and B not only helped him legally but continues to support him.

Total loss of respect. Or whatever.

That is truly horrific! I don't have a brother, but truth be told I would gladly betray anyone who was guilty of committing rape, because rapists, and other predators are not deserving of loyalty from anyone.

Sounds like you’re thinking of Nicki Minaj, though she’s pretty adamant that she doesn’t support her rapist brother.

Cardi B sings WAP, yes. She doesn’t have a brother that raped a family member, that’s Nicki Minaj. They’re two completely different people.

If the performers are enjoying it it’s empowering, context matters.

It's just another song. If men can make music about sex, so can women.

I agree. However, Cardi B claims that her song is all about empowering women, while the men (from what I've seen) don't claim that their songs are about empowering men.

The thought of female impowerment or female objectification is just stupid to me. Idk how much empowering they need they can already vote and work and do whatever the fuck they want. Should just get over themselves

If I had to choose one of those options - I'd say objectifying, but above all of that it's just plain stupid.

I would say objectifying in a way that makes one vomit.

I never listened to the full song. But I know what’s it about due to the attention it got. I don’t care about objectifying or empowering, I just believe that if a man could rap or sing about wanting to bang a woman and go into details than i think women could sing about liking sex

For decades men had been using women in some way to make a profit. Whether it’s through the film industry, music or etc. But today when women use their bodies to make a profit (such as this weird hot tub twitch situation or only fans) it’s a problem and it’s seen as sluty or disgusting.

Woman here it's definitely objectifying and also completely stupid. Why do they even allow that trash to play on the radio?

My 6 year old cousin sang along to it 😑
