Yeah, I use the word 'retard' sometimes tbh. I don't use it a lot though, I save it for when the person is just beyond ignorant and spreading dangerous misformation. I still don't feel good about it though. There's no reason why it shouldn't be as off-limits as the word 'nigger', at least in principle. I can understand if it (and other slurs) isn't as offensive though, since 'nigger' was used so recently (and still is used) and so widespread, probably much more than against any other minority group in history, and often by the police beating/killing black people. Still, using a slur isn't ok just because it's not quite as bad as that, it's still permitting prejudice and saying it's ok. I'll try not to say 'retard' from now on.

I don't know what you're getting at with Trump though. I hate Trump and think he's a cunt, but I never even knew his son was autistic, let alone disliking him because I'm apparently prejudiced against the mentally disabled. The use of offensive language, by itself, should be free to use. If someone goes off to kill the retarded, you can't then say that the word should not be used and expect people to follow it; because those two actions, one of using a word, and one of massacring millions of people, are, too most rational people, clearly two disparate issuses.

As much as you might not like it, being retarded is a very basically understandable negative concept; the reality of it is, to be mentally retarded is not a good thing to be. Every single one of them, in their proper sense, are used to classify someone's IQ. Everyone single one of them are also used as insults. Being mentally incapable will always be used an insult. You can change the word all you want, but the sentiment of the insult will always remain in use.

Neither are truly offensive. People simply choose to be offended by a term for black people and a term for people with developmental delays. In reality, the word "disabled" should be considered more offensive because it implies that something about them is non-functioning.

I try to avoid words that shoehorn others into an insult. Words that mean to be rude to groups of people based on race or sexuality or ability I think are just unnecessary.

I try not to say faggot, chink, tranny, retarded, or the “n word” in an insulting way because I know gay people, asian people, transgender people, mentally disabled people, and black people who I respect and wouldn’t want to insult.
I don’t think it’s fair to insult all gay people when you’re only trying to insult one bad dude. If I hate an obnoxious gay dude, it’s not because he’s gay, it’s because he’s obnoxious.

I don’t hate people for being a certain race, sexuality, gender, or ability, so I don’t use words that directly insult that race, sexuality, gender, or ability.
