There are some really good reasons to commit suicide. Excruciating pain for one. I'm not talking a hangnail, I'm talking fused spinal column. Also permanent infirmity. In some cultures it is expected of the elderly to allow themselves to die once they feel unable to contribute.
And as for it being cowardly. I don't get that. I'm a believer in an afterlife so the thought of death doesn't scare me. But most people who say they believe are terrified. So trying to commit suicide would be an act of courage.
