Is sadism normal?

Do humans naturally take enjoyment in the suffering of others? I feel like most (if not all) people secretly enjoy watching others suffer and we just attempt to hide it because we've been raised to believe it's wrong

No, sadism is not normal, and neither is masochism. Lots of people will say that it's a normal fetish, and that's their business, because they can think whatever they want. However I think that it's unhealthy for the mind, and that those practices are degrading, and dehumanizing.

Like S and M for life at large? Or only for sex? Those are very different things, the latter of which I would argue is not unhealthy for the mind. Take me for instance, I like seeing women in pain if they consent to it because it gives them pleasure. And even more so do I like inflicting pain on consenting women for sexual pleasure.

Well I'm into that deginition to. But in this context I was referring to sadism and masichism, which go figure, I like in a sexual context. What else does it stand for? I probably like that to.

I know! Just don't say its mentally unhealthy, say, I don't personally see the appeal. I wasn't sure what you meant in your first comment so I'm just clarifying.

All in all, I don't think sadism is normal as a whole, and neither is sexual sadism. Sexual sadism is a type of sadism that is not unhealthy in my opinion as long as the acts done are safe, sane, legal and consensual.

Only towards people I don't like. I feel horrible when nice & kind people are hurt, but I feel completely euphoric when ass-holes are hurt (especially when I'm the one hurting them)

    • I naturally read your profile description with the voice of the Hatred protagonist in mind.

I don't enjoy watching others suffer. There is something wrong with you.

    • I find that hard to believe, most people would probably agree with me.

Enjoying the pain of others, or hurting others may not be 'normal' for all humans, but it is certainly normal for at least some! And thank goodness for that! *smiles*

No, I have too much empathy for people. I even feel bad for people that I know are bad getting hurt. I HATE seeing people suffering so I do not agree with your statement. I don’t have a problem if I’m the one in pain, as long as I don’t have to see others in pain. Completely honest.

I would say it's normal, I wouldn't say it should be practiced.
