  • There is a pretty simple test for determining how appropriate a punishment might be; if the punishment is something that is punishable under law then that punishment can not be done. The only exception would be incarceration, simply because, other than creating another Australia, there is nothing else to be done with people that can not live peaceably in society.

    This is also why most civilised countries do not have the death penalty. The "eye for an eye" thing is the way primitive cultures view and handle these matters. I would like to believe we've come a little further than that in the last few thousand years.
