Cigarette burns? That's not just physical punishment, but outright abuse. Something like that happening today would have CPS busting down your door and hauling your parents off to jail in no time flat.
That's just terrible that this was how you were treated. I'm sure you were subjected to other forms of abuse (i.e. torture) that are just reprehensible beyond words. I hope you were able to get therapy and have been able to cope with the physical and mental scars of your past.
Is Physical punishment still common practice?

I was definitely conditioned to fear a lot of things growing up. I.e. comming home late for any reason warrented cig burns on my arm.
