Is one of these people more 'right' in their hate?

  • So what you're saying is that those who follow Islam are bound by beliefs that must be held by all, yes? Ok. So one could fairly assume that this applies to all religions, one would assume. Which would include Christianity.

So those who consider themselves Christians are bound by beliefs that must be held by them in order to be considered Christian. Ok.

    Ahem. And I quote:

    Romans 12:14-16
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and curse not. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

"Those who persecute" would be non Christians. Don't know about your vocab, but in mine, bless =/= hate. WIshing for good to come to someone kinda negates a hateful attitude.

    Matthew 5:43-46
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be like your Father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors do the same, don’t they?

That's Jesus telling his followers to love those who are against him and them.

    Romans 12:17-21
17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

RESPECT. BE AT PEACE. ...kinda not hate, don't you think? Yeah there's the whole wrath of God stuff...but they're saying leave that to God, it's not the business of humans.

Oh and the scripture quoted within that one:

    Proverbs 25:21-22
If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thisrty, give him water to drink, for you will heap burning coals upon his head and the Lord will reward you.

It's saying show love to all, not in order to bring them suffering. The meaning meant to be taken from it is the usual Christian belief that being good and showing love to others when treated poorly is to show them righteousness, that they may (it is hoped) be humbled by the experience and be drawn to discover what makes the Christian act in such a way.

    • So you could really argue that, if anything, the Christian is worse. The racist is a prick for believing skin colour is a basis for hating a group of people, more than likely through ignorance.

The Christian should know better than to hate a group of people for their beliefs, based on the fact that their God tells them not to. The Christian in your scenario can't whinge about Muslims 'taking inappropriately' from the Bible if they're gonna then pervert the words of same. The Christian is also a prick, and should know better as has been specifically told.

In closing...what dom180, taciturn, gena45, emerald, and everyone else has said...but with verses from the book that Christians are meant to hold as wisdom from their God.

            • Nope, I'm familiar with it. Did three theology courses at uni. I manage to block it all out most days.

Now and then, the hypocrisy gets to me though.

But I shouldn't worry my pretty little head about it I spose :P

              • Very true, and "hoes and bitches can never carry the word of God" must be in the Bible somewhere because I've had it repeated to me very many times. Must be in the book of Playa. God bless them all. I roll my eyes at men.
