What's the rest of that "old saying"? If it's anything about wives having to submit to sex whenever their husband wants it, get yourself back to the 1950's or earlier because that's where those views belong.
While it's certainly true that sexual activity nearly always wanes in long term relationships, there's no evidence that's because women are more likely to lose interest than are men ..... except of course when the bloke is so bad as sex she stops wanting it, at least from him.
