  • Your professor is the moron. People have the right to believe what they want but we have a right and a duty to mock those beliefs when they are factually incorrect and harmful. Tolerating ignorance is a slippery slope. You tend to find flat earthers are also anti-vaxxers, right wing conspiracists, and hold a host of other ignorant and harmful beliefs. Even if their only looney belief is a flat earth, they are a danger and deserve 100% of your disgust and mockery.

    • It's interesting that you believe that you have a "right and duty to MOCK people" for being ignorant or factually incorrect and that they are dangerous and deserve your "disgust and mockery". I shudder to think that this is the method you have taught your three children to use when out and about in the world.

      • I have taught them. Harmful beliefs are disrespectful to society. Such disrespect is NOT worthy of our respect. The fragile right-wing snowflakes deserve mockery and their ignorance deserves to be exposed. It’s very simple.

      • I shudder at how fucking stupid it is to tell someone to stop mocking people who think the damn earth is flat!

        • Mockery rests upon a false opinion and proclaims the imperfection of the mocker. Mockery is not an effective tool for improvement. Mockery is a form of hatred and sadness which can never be converted into joy. (Spinoza). Even if the flat earthers are misinformed, choosing mockery as a weapon really reflects back on you. I don’t expect you to get it though. You have proven yourself to be as misinformed as the flat earthers you mock. No matter how much you argue your point it has become obvious that you will never grasp the lesson of your professor Your 6 foot ladder is never going to get you to the top of a 2 story building.

          • Mockery is an important tool when used as a form of derision and contempt. Beliefs that are harmful to society demand our contempt. If not, are you saying they demand our acceptance? If so, you are part of the problem and are part of why these false beliefs are growing.
Because certain celebrity anti-vaxxers and flat earthers were derided, they woke up and later came out apologizing for their ignorance.
I am not saying mocking them is the ONLY tool - just that it is a valid one. IF THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES, you don’t accept those that says he does.
