Either this is her selfish personality or she has some grudge with you where she felt you were ungrateful and she is teaching you a lesson. My parents have money and I have been out of a job before and they were very tight with their money. I don't get it either, but I can say that people who are well off are USUALLY very tight with their money. The truth is that you make more money by saving money than by making money (because of the expenses incurred when you make money, like taxes, equipment, employees, etc). So letting the kids make their own money is an extension of this.
