Is my interest in the color of everything normal?

Is it normal that I always notice the specific color of everything I see. As long as I'm not distracted by something (like conversation), I think about whether it is cool or warm, or how much grey it has in it. Sometimes--no, most of the time, I even start daydreaming about how much yellow, red or blue there is in it and how it impacts the color that I see in front of me. I pretty much do this constantly and have done so since I was about five (when I was first exposed to finger paints and brightly colored toys). I am not an artist, but I have a passion for color and never stop thinking about it. Is everyone else like this too?

Is It Normal?

  • I do this too! I'm surprised you're not an artist... actually I think you are you're just not actively doing it at the moment. Buy some fingerpaint! Seriously, what a beautiful opportunity to explore something you're interested in and pretty clearly have a talent for, many people don't even know what you're talking about, much less how to manipulate color subtly to shift it the way you describe.

What is your favorite color? I bet there's one in particular, a certain warmth or coolness or vibrancy of a hue that you don't see very often that rocks your world when you do. Which is it? Buy some paint and paint it onto a canvas, and play with it, put other colors beside it, lighten and darken it.....
(mine is a crazy ultraviolet color, a clear strong reddish-purple, you know the one I mean...)

  • ...do you relate certian colors to certain people? or emotions?

you may be able to see auras. if color is an obsession, you may possibly have psychic ability that you have never explored.

    look into it! :)

  • I said it wasn't normal.
You have a unique skill; your analytical brain using both sides to analyse colour and percentages of colour. Don't shun, instead capitalise on it and develop it; master it. Then use this unique quirk to your advantage.

  • I think about this too, but I'm artist. You sound like you could be a great artist. You should try it.

There are artists out there that focus on color and I think you would love their work. Pascal Campion and Noah Bradley come to mind.

  • It's not something I do but it sounds interesting. Perhaps you can have a career as a designer?
