That's actually an above average girth. I remember reading a couple years back the average girth for a male is 4.5 inches round. I am 6 inches on the dot but I also only measured the very middle part of my man-hood (which is the thickest part for me), never the head.
At-least 5 different girls told me I had the fattest they ever had (not bragging, just saying), so I guess this speaks to the "Above average" question. One girl I must have had sex with 20 different times from 1998 to around 2003 also stated to me that I was the thickest she ever been with, she almost cryed everytime she had sex with me as she could barely take it, and she had plenty of boyfriends inbetween our sexual encounters.

This site also noted that you should be measuring the thickest part of the penis, as every mans man-hood is thicker in some areas then others.
