Is my dog normal?

Is it normal for my dog to try to hide his food on the carpet, I mean he tries to hide his treats on flat surfaces like he's hiding it in muck in the garden and throwing imagined muck over it. He also tries to hide it in blankets, where his stash is obviously going to be found. Honestly he's terrible at hiding things. Anybody have a dog like this or is mine extra special.

Carpet is no different to dirt in his mind. He is probably trying to bury food for later, because he has too much. My dog used to try any bury stuff on a tiled floor, completely oblivious to the fact that nothing moved when he went through the motions. Even though he appeared to be an intelligent dog otherwise. When instinct kicks in the the conscious mind seems to go out the window!

I've never seen a dog like that. But it's probably instinct... Plus that sounds really adorable..

I'm very relieved now, thanks to everybody for your comments. I'm assured my dog is normal.

From our perspective, it looks pretty stupid, but it's an instinct that's being thwarted by the unnatural environment the dogs live in.

it's supposed to be evolutionary, dogs have an instinct for burying stuff.

My aunt's dog does that with biscuits.

Nothing to be concerned about, though I don't know any dog that does that.
