Is milk evil?

I was drinking milk and my friend got mad at me. She told me it was the "evil white man's poison" and i shouldn't be drinking it. She's lactose intolerant, so maybe that's why she said that? I'm lactose intolerant too but i just drink lactose free. Milk is delicious. aside from bad smelling gas it never did anything bad to me. is milk evil?

Is there anything that goes better with cookies than a big glass of milk?

I'm not having my ancestors struggling north over millennia, slowly building lactose tolerance, just to throw it down the pan by not drinking milk!

No. It's just liquid secretions from a cow's udder. There's nothing wrong with it. My brother actually told me how milk is considered "racist". No, it's not.

The solution you're looking for is working towards better treatment for cows and their calves. Milk itself is alright though.

The thing is, that can't happen. Cows have to be almost constantly pregnant to keep making milk and are just thrown away like garbage after a few years when their production goes down. Male calves are doomed from birth to become veal or live for a year or so to become beef...there's nothing else for 99% of them. You can treat them kindly all day long but those facts remain. It's not kind to perpetuate this.

Almonds are victims of the same plight in the almond milk industry.
Constant state of pregnancy and then discarded and wind up in a box of granola.
            Oh the horror.

Get over it. Have pity for the cow if you want but humans are treated no better so you may as well enjoy what you want.

Think about, all but very few of us are born into a life of slavery. Everyone works a job they hate their entire lives unless they are very lucky.

If you aren't lucky you are a slave. Try to live for a year without having going to work. You can't. You might succeed but you'd have to do something else you hate, just to survive.

My point is everyone and everything has a job to do. The cows are no different.

Its our job to work pointless jobs all our lives. It's a cows job to give milk or become beef.

If they didn't do those two things, chances are they wouldn't be alive to begin with.

Would you trade your life for a shitty job?

Milk has a slew of vitamins in it. Not to mention it is high in protein, just 200ml contains about 7.5g of protein. Milk pairs with food so well for example a dollop of peanut butter on your toast? wash it down with milk..so good. That egg sarnie you had for lunch, have a glass of milk with it, you will love milk even more after. Oh a choccy biscuit, nothing washes down a bit of choc like a glass of milk. What a sensation, one that i crave after a meal.

The problem is the dairy industry. They are not nice to the cows. If you get a cow and you love the cow, I think it's ok to have some of it's milk.

    I personally find milk gross.

Milk is goodness. Ice cream is made out of milk, how can ice cream be bad. Or milk shakes, or thick shakes? Just how?

It is. I grew up on a dairy farm and for a long time didn't see what was wrong with the prodiction of milk but it is, most definitely, a horrible thing. Adult humans do not need to drink milk and milk production makes so much needless suffering for animals.

Stop thinking of calcium as something you need to drink. Leafy greens like kale and collards. There's nothing really supporting humans needing milk after infancy and there's a lot of questionability about milk even being nutritionally helpful. It has calcium but the question lies in its absorbability. Especially after pasteurization and homeginization.

I question our ability to absorb nutrients from kale. In fact there is probably more papers claiming the benefits of milk than claim the benefits of kale. Who is right, who is wrong? You choose to believe what you want in the end.

Nutritionist don't know anything, it's bullcrap psuedoscience that changes every couple of years.

Eat whatever you want in moderation and you'll be perfectly healthy.

For me I'll take a tall glass of milk, a nice steak, a glass of beer and some corn and potatos over your twigs and rat dropping any day.

I hear you. I grew up on a dairy farm and was in 4H and all that shit. I never heard or thought anything negative about milk for decades of my life. I DID hear some criticism about the dairy industry and I thought 'that doesn't apply to us, we did our best and treated our cows well'. Well, that was bullshit. Pregnancy and birth is a big deal. Having your baby taken from you right away is a big deal. Being tied in a stall on a concrete floor for 50-100% of your life is a big deal. Barely being able to move because of your grotesqely large genetically manipulated udder is a big deal. Getting frequent painful infections in the udder is a big deal. Getting thrown away like garbage if you make too little milk or have an injury/illness is a big deal. Veal (a horrible existence for the calves, they aren't even allowed to move) only exists because of excess male calves from dairy cows. While I was in the business, all that was just another day...it was what 'naturally had to happen'. But no, it doesn't 'have to' happen, we choose to make it happen.

I stopped drinking milk after moving from my parent's home, not for any ethical concerns at that time, it was because I couldn't finish a jug before it went bad so I quit buying it to save money and waste. I was actually worried that I wasn't getting enough calcium (I was literally scared that my bones would start breaking any day because of all the pro-milk propaganda all my life) and upon doing a good amount of research on the subject, I found milk really isn't the nutritional 'god' it is portrayed as. I had nothing to fear about lacking calcium as there is many other good sources of it and milk isn't the great source it is touted to be because of how our bodies work and how milk is processed. I've had blood and genetic testing that confirmed I had no calcium deficiency/absorbtion issues. I'd rather keep not drinking milk, that's at least one less cow that has to suffer for me, I can get plenty of calcium elsewhere without causing misery.

I don't eat twigs or squirrel turds, but I do try to make the best choices I possibly can for food.

Drink all the milk you want, I'm not saying you can't. Just be aware that the nutrition aspect is questionable and cows and calves most definitely do suffer to provide you with it. If it's worth it for you then fine, it is what it is.

It is worth it to me. As I stated before. These cows you so desperately want to save would never be born at all if it wasn't for milk and beef. I think any life, miserable or not, is better than no life at all.
