The only proof she ever had the dog is in my mother and her's messages. She never took the dog to a vet and she's a mutt so no papers. We have not taken the dog to the vet as we had been on the fence about whether we were gonna let the dog go back or not. The woman was supposed to be buying a place and then taking him back but she still has no place.
We will be taking her to the vet soon though, gonna get her fixed, all her shots, and get a general checkup!
We do have photos from when we first got her showing how much her bones stuck out.
You guys are good people for taking care of this animal & rehabbing an abused animal that's not socialized is HARD work!
You said these people are "ghetto," af which means they probably won't go the legal avenue, but in case they do any documentation is better than nothing. Your pics, any phone/text records of these people threatening you, evidence if you report them to ASPCA, even proof that they have not vaccinated (neglectful)- all of this would help immensely.
Is It Wrong To Keep A Dog From An Abusive Owner

She has finally stopped flinching and gotten to a healthy weight. No animal deserves to be treated like that.
Thank you for the tip!
