We broke up 9 years ago. It was him actually, he broke up with me, got with another girl.

He said I was too serious but that's because my mum died 2 years into our 3 years dating so I was depressed. We reconnected recently and have spent the past 3 weeks on the phone for upwards of 8 hours. He even said "why did I break up with you, I must have been crazy ".

We connect really well. I really want to be with him again. Is it normal to date again?

    I hope he's matured since then. It's important that he be able to handle a crisis if he wants to be serious with you now. He already proved once that he was no good in a crisis.

      Go for it. People do shit. People regret. People can change. The one who said the contrary is a white Knight virgin disconnected from real life. The true is, he may disappoint you, again. Or he may not. What is sure, is that you are already sharing a great moment. In a break up, both side are wrong, no matter what people said. Yes, some are abusive, but that's because some are weak too. You can't erase shit from your life and say ''it was not my fault'', unless you have some unpredictable shit, like cancer that is somehow random. You were both young, probably stupid. People do shit. People regret. People can change. Go for it.

    I got back together with my high school girlfriend for a second time around after many many years. We both remembered how we had fun together as kids, and hit the ground running. She had sexual fantasies that needed to be fulfilled, a house that needed significant work, and she needed a travel partner.

    It was a wonderful time, and it lasted a year and a half. The second time around is often better, but a bit shorter. Eventually, the personality incompatibilities that caused problems the first time come back to haunt you. Since you are older and wiser, you know how to conclude the relationship before there is lots of pain.

    I would never advise going back to your ex. You broke up for a reason and it sounds like his reason was shitty. Anyone can send nice texts saying nice things. It means nothing.
