Is it weird to retake the act as an adult (age 23)?

I first took it when I was like 17 and I didn't really take it seriously, I mean I didn't do terrible, just pretty average. It was enough to get into the local university so I didn't care, but now I'd like to transfer to a better university, most of them require about a 26, and I only have a 24. I never learned precalc until now and I didn't even finish the test.

So is it weird to take the test again as an adult, since mostly only HS kids take it?

Is It Normal?

  • How have your grades been in the local university? I would think if you are successfully performing at the university level, that would carry more weight than a higher ACT score at the better university. If you did well, you have tangible proof that you can handle the course load and you won't be wasting their time. Someone who has a high ACT score, but no university experience, can still fail at university level course work. Not all of your credits may not transfer over, but isn't getting into the better university more important anyway?

  • Take the ACT? You're going to take the Australian Capital Territory away? Good.

  • Yes. It's fine. Do what you want to do. I have a friend who took the ACT 5 times. His fifth time being when he was 24. You are fine. Do what you have to do to get where you want to go.

    • Plus some schools let you pick which scores you want sent. For example, if you needed a 26 in Science to make a score of 26, and you scored a 26 on the science the first time and a 24 the second, some schools allow you to pick the first tests science to replace the second score's 24. Does that make sense?
