Is it weird that i really like my last name?

I think that my last name goes so well with my first name...is it normal that I almost DON'T want to take my husband's name when we get married!?

Is It Normal?

  • I know men who have been offended when their partners wanted to keep their own surname and I know a man that changed his name to hers for personal reasons. It's a personal choice these days, you don't have to change it if you choose not too

  • you dont have to change your name when you get married, i almost didnt change mine but like dappled said, it can get confusing when kids are involved.
but i have a more personal reason to want to change my name back to my maiden name so i might just hyphenate it. my husband said he would even take my surname if i really wanted him to.
but i know women who didnt change their surname and it never affected their marriage, i also know a couple of men who would be very offended if their wives didnt take their names so i guess it depends on each persons circumstances.

  • I used to hate my last name because it seemed so uncommon. I especially hated my middle name because it's the same as my dad's and we're named after a film star (yes, we're both called Sandra after Sandra Bullock) but I've grown into it. It's become me. I can understand you feel precious about your own name.

Although it makes things complicated where kids are involved, there's no reason in this day and age why a woman should lose her surname upon marriage.
