Do you think she routinely asks former pupils to keep in touch? In other words, was she just being polite, or was it a genuine expression of interest in you as a person? Good teachers do take an interest in how the lives of their former students progress, particularly the ones they liked.
If you felt some sense of identification with her, it's not impossible that she felt the same.
Charli.m makes valid points about why she might not want former students seeing her FB page. The other side of this is the sort of stuff you post on FB. If your privacy settings are locked down and you post things you wouldn't want your parents or other family members to see, then maybe you don't want her seeing that either.
I'm not clear if you just graduated or if you graduated a year ago. If you've only just finished HS, then maybe a Friends request right now might seem a little too eager. If she's genuinely interested in you, then a request in a few months might be a nice surprise.
