Is it typical to almost pee yourself dueing coughing/sneezing fits?

I don't get sick often but I've fallen ill with pneumonia. Due to this I've been having a lot of coughing fits. I am recovering a bit but when I end up with a bad cough or even a strong sneeze I sort of pee myself a little. I'm not that old so this worries me a bit. Is it normal for this to happen when you're a bit sick?

Yes. You may have a weak bladder.

  • Yes it’s normal. If you are practically wetting yourself with a full piss, the infection may have moved to your bladder and you need to tell your doctor. Cranberry juice will help clear it up if that is the case and being that you are sick you should drink it anyway (reduced sugar) and if you don’t like the taste mix 50/50 with orange juice for a better taste and a jolt of vitamin C.

    • Oh I love my cranberry juice. Cranberry with a splash of watermelon, it's great. And yeah it's not a full piss, it's a squirt and clinch then quick shuffle to the restroom kind of thing.

      • Normal. Keep up on the juices, skip the watermelon and go with OJ.
If your male and over 30, have a prostate exam when you’re better if the squirting doesn’t stop or gets worse.

        • Not a biological male so don't have the prostate, thankfully one of the good things bout being trans I guess. I'll try OJ with it, see how that tastes. If I dun like it I'll just go for the cranberry right out since I, oddly, love the stuff.

          • Biologically born females are more prone to bladder infections sick or not. Cranberry juice is your friend. Get well soon.

            • Thanks, I'm working on it. Just a whole lot of laying down and trying to take it easy. Driving me nuts not getting much done but it's what I gotta do to get better.

Cranberry juice, salt and b vitimans cure everything. But yes it is normal to have a little release.

      • Not salt, it will aid dehydration when sick and that’s a no-no. Gargle with it for sore throats or bathe in salt water for mild rash or minor cuts, don’t ingest.

          • Canned fish, beans, soup, olives, pickles, whole grain breads etc are loaded with electrolytes. There is little reason to add salt to anything unless you are a strict vegan. Then have a cup of vegetable bullion every few days be you’ll be quite fine.

No it helps. Without salt humans cant digest food.

          • The amount of salt in processed food is more than adequate to keep the body running and give a 20 yo high blood pressure and enough excess water retention to go up a full shoe size. Unless OP is on a strict organic diet, they are getting plenty.
Hey OP if you’re on that kind of strict diet you do need salt - have cup-a-soup and you’re good for a few days.

            • Semi-organic, I try to avoid most processed foods but I cheat sometimes. I also avoid iodized salt due to iodine sensitivity. My sodium levels are under pretty good control though, thankfully. Least something with my health is staying stable >_>

          • Low sodium diet due to other health issues. But salt in moderation can help, all depends on how your normal sodium levels are.

            • Have a banana and low-sodium organic peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread every few days, potassium and electrolytes will be fine, banana will help with mild diarrhea if you have that too. Take care.
