Is it true that too much calcium gives you kidney stones?

my mom, who says a lot of things that turn out arn't true in witch case making it giberish. says that too much calcium gives you kidney stones. I'm getting to the point I don't beleive her any more and can't take it. is this true, and normal to get kidney stones from too much calcium?

  • It's more tricky than that. A lot of kidney stones contain quite a lot of calcium but it doesn't follow that they're caused by eating too much calcium (although that seems logical). It's more that other things are stopping calcium being absorbed so it forms stones.

  • I'm not a doctor, so don't quote me on any of this but to my understanding excessive calcium CAN lead to kidney stones but it isn't guaranteed. Excessive calcium can potentially lead to a bunch of problems this being one option. But it would also depend on your body. Everyone would react differently.

  • It doesn't help apparently if you've had kidney stones. Besides, I don't think that too much calcium is good for you.
