Is it rude to tell your mom to shut up?
I asked her to stop making sounds with her mouth. It was getting a little overwhelming and she has a tendency to ramble on and on. She was not offended by my request.

It's rude to tell anyone to shut up. I am sure that you have annoying habits that makes people desperately want to tell you to shut up or go away.
Where's your dad? My mom was crazy as hell but if I told her to shutup my dad would give me a concussion.
Telling anyone to shut up is lacking in social refinement, although it's sometimes a justified escalation if the other person refuses to show any consideration.
There are other ways of dealing with people who rattle on. The ability to tune people out is a useful skill in many contexts, and leaving the room after calmly explaining why you're doing so is more socially acceptable than telling someone to shut up.
If you do for in a...nice way I suppose.
You don't have to say "shit the fuck up mom", but you could set some boundaries by saying "mom I'm trying to concentrate right now, can we talk about this later?" Or "mom those sounds are distracting me. Please stop"
Something like that. It will lessen the blow and seem less rude.
My mother was a lying hypocrite so telling her to shut up was practically mandatory!
Yeah it's rude. Sometimes it's ok to be rude though. It really depends on the situation.
Yup, rude.
You can interrupt her and say "Can I say something", or whatever, but telling your mom to shut up is kinda mean.
