Is it rational that i'm afraid that i'll get shot in my own home?

I have been looking at the state of my country for awhile now and it looks like it's going to be more authoritarian and I have come to peace with that.

The majority of People seem to want a dystopian regime ruling over them and it's useless trying to fight them when people wish to be lead by a harsh hand.

But I'm scared that I will meet my end at the hands of a corrupt authority figure in the future and that my name will be smeared because of something small in my life.

Is it rational to feel this way I have reached beyond the point of despair because there is no hope.

I used to take prozac everyday for a few years along with some other medication but a few weeks ago I actually tried half a xanax. not the same. not the same at all.

Prozac and Xanax are two totally different things. Prozac is an SSRI for treating depression and some associated disorders and is very rarely used in treating specific anxiety disorders. Xanax(Alprazolam) on the other hand is almost exclusively used for treating anxiety and is closely related to diazepam and functions more like a muscle relaxer and mood inhibitor.

When I lived in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and went to some friends' houses in nice neighborhoods but that were opposite favelas I was always aware it was a possibility. Not in my own place, though.

While living in the US I've never had that fear, but it's been quite some time since I last lived there.

    • While America isn't as bad as Brazil it still has a shit ton of corruption most don't think it's a issue because they believe America is utopian. But no place is perfect and the more people ignore it the worse it's going to get.

The thing is that America used to be the land of the free and the brave but it's not anymore. The American Dream is dead. I have dual citizenship and chose to live here because of free healthcare, free undergraduate school and also the "Brazilian way", aka "jeitinho brasileiro", that we have here.

Okay, there was a man involved in my decision to come back as well.. lol! We're not together anymore but I love it here. Well, not only I have my family here but I am, unlike nearly 20% of the population, well employed and have a good life - better than I had in the US.

Nowadays I'm more afraid to live there than where I live!

Do you have anxiety disorder / schiozphrenia or is this a bit of an exaggeration? Honestly, I feel the same as you but it's not to do with politics or authorities (other fears regarding them, though). It's probably a mental disorder if you genuinely feel that way. but i get it.

        • What I meant by potlicals I didn't what people to think I just meant republicans all political parties are the same here in America didn't want to come off as bias.

I do have some anxiety problems as well as some depression if you kind of feel the same way then it's not just me feeling that way.

It’s ok to say one party is significantly worse than the other. I know you don’t want to trigger republicans and have them harass you, and that’s understandable, but they’re going to come after you for any perceived slight anyway. Might as well just call it like it is.

I am marginally more concerned about being shot when out in public when I am in the USA. It doesn't affect my behaviour or cause major anxiety. It's just something that crosses my mind on occasion.

You should go and live in a rural area or in the woods, and you will soon realize that the US government, short of biological warfare, doesn't have a hope in hell of taking over this country. Even with biologics they would have a hard time.

    • You do know that the us miltary is the most strongest miltary on the planet. It dosent matter were you go they can get to you those militamen in the backwoods who think that they will win in a fight against the us military is laughable. They couldn't even take on look law enforcement like swat or the fbi before they could take on the us miltary. Not even that they are heavy infiltrated by said law groups so the government has got tabs on them so if it came down to it the us government could clean house regardless of were you'd go. People who are farmers are going to get targeted first because they are the source of food they fight back if they want but agian the us government/miltary is massive. Those in rural areas will have more problems the those in urban or suburban areas because it won't be that hard to subdue them if it came down to it. I'm not saying this as a brag it's just facts not only is the us government corrupt it also has a big miltary to back it up.

The U.S military is 0.4 percent of the population. More people go to football games on any given Sunday.

I brought up rural areas not because of militias, but for understanding the mindset of the U.S population at large, and the shear expanse of the country.

Also, dont for one second, believe the military and law enforcement would blindly follow orders to enslave the population. Most cops are in it for a short career and long pension. Look how many cops quit when the population turns on them.

No, I would be much more concerned about people willfully giving up their rights for a promise of false "security". Either that or being distracted by trinkets like iPhones or Kim Kardashians ass.

If the government wanted to take over, they could. It wouldn’t be nearly as hard as you think. Start by getting as many people on your side as possible - that starts with propaganda that convinces people anybody who disagrees with them is wrong or disrespectful, you know first hand how easy it is to fall for that. That’s right, I bet you didn’t know that you’re helping the authoritarianism take hold when you call protesters unpatriotic or claim that expecting cops to obey the law and be held accountable when they don’t is “turning their backs on cops.”

Then all it takes is making an example out of high profile dissenters. If somebody who speaks out about the government’s tyranny and loses their job, and a sizeable portion of the population is ok with that, it makes other people less likely to speak out and it emboldens the government to go further. That’s how it always starts. Authoritarianism doesn’t take hold overnight, it’s one step at a time over years.
