I can't talk much from personal experience because I do live in a city which is quite diverse and my dating history reflects that, but I'll elaborate on my take:
Preferring to date a certain race over another is like preferring brown eyed people over blue eyed ones. It's not 100% rational, which is probably why you were accused of being racist. That and you are limiting your prospects.
That said, don't try to force attraction. If you aren't feeling it, you aren't feeling it.
