  • As long as it's thickly coated in milk chocolate & contains peanuts you can call it what you like.

  • For what it's worth, the usual British pronunciation is KARR-uh-mel, with a long A. Use that, if you want to sound classy or ridiculous.

Apparently, the tendency to ignore the second A in the word has been increasing in the States, and KAR-muhl is pretty common these days. I was born in the Fifties, and I know my parents pronounced it that way back when I was a kid. In fact, I think I can recall having arguments about it with my mom when I was a know-it-all teen.

  • Carmel, 2 syllables, is a fantastic city in California. Cara mel vs cara mel totally depends on whethere you are Brithish or American. Americans say carah mel, the carah rhymes with sarah. Brits say cara mel, the cara sounding like an automobile. Idk what the 2 other major English speaking vernacluars say. South Africans probably just say chocolate.

  • I'm fine with either as long as you don't go saying "cahhrmull". A simple, "car-mel" is okay by me.

  • Everyone outside of the confederate states, including other english speaking countries entirely, say "caramel" like it's spelt.

Therefore, the correct pronunciation is with 3 syllables.

  • It's pronounced the way it's spelled.

  • I pronounce it different than most people. I would say "cara morl".

  • This is weird because I've been asked this before and I honestly have no idea how I say it. When I try to think about it, I absolutely cannot be sure. I tell myself to try to remember the next time I say it in natural conversation but I never do.

    • There is no word that rhymes with it or can be easily associated with it.
It’s like Worcester (sp?) sauce. My dad would just say pass me the Lee and Perrins which was the brand name.
