Is it possible to do what you want in life?

There's a lot of media around "starting life anew", breaking the chains of the boring life we started out in and immersing ourselves in something that we're actually passionate about. Whether it be leaving a business world to do jazz or leaving your family to be with the girl you love... is stuff like that realistic?

If you don’t have a bunch of kids or a dying granny, sure.

It depends on what exactly you want, and if you want it so much you focus on your goal with a laser-like intensity. If you need it so much that you're happy to exclude everything from your life that doesn't move you nearer to your goal and you're content with a lousy day-to-day life because you're only interested in the long-term, you can achieve a lot.

That doesn't mean that dedication and determination will always win the day.

Maybe the ex-businessman will never rival the historical greats of jazz. Maybe the wanna-be first woman on Mars will never fulfil that dream. Maybe the guy will never be able to make the leap from his family and he won't live happily ever after with the girl of his dreams.

But those people will at least have the satisfaction of knowing that they had a dream, and they can say they gave it their absolute best shot. And it's possible that along the way, they might just discover that they actually wanted something else entirely. It's not uncommon for people to end up in a different place than they intended, but a lot happier than they would have been if they'd stuck to their rut.

You have to work very hard and sometimes sacrifice people you love to get what you want.

I have the willpower to achieve my goals, yet I lack the motivation to create the first brick in its construction.

For some people, yes. For most reality is what it is unless you're willing to put in a hell of a lot of struggle, which many people aren't and is why they are why they are.

Write it out. It's super important.
If you don't have many people to care for, I believe in you!

It's probably difficult to achieve what you want at the moment, but it's not impossible. The same has been true at other times in your life.

It’s all a matter of context. If you plan and you’re methodical about it, sure. But if you’re impulsive and irresponsible, then it’s a recipe for disaster.
