OP I think this is your answer right here. You can't be rooted in thinking that only guys want casual hookups. Everyone has needs, and sometimes it's great if having those needs met comes with no strings attached.
I agree with what both of you have said. I would add that I think it is a silly stereotype that men are not often the ones to develop feelings. Personally I have seen such arrangements more often fall apart due to the guy developing strong feelings and jealousy. I actually think that is the more common thing but that is just my personal observations.
I mean I could see it going both ways, but yeah I could see the guy developing feelings more easily. And I want to agree with you on the whole it being more common than one would think.
