Is it possible for me to send soap-on-a-rope to an enemy in jail?

I recently found out that an enemy of mine has been in my county's detention center for close to a year, awaiting trial for sexually abusing a young girl (this guy is 33 years old.) He is likely to get federal prison time from the looks of things (soliciting sex from a minor online.) Woo-hoo!!!
I would like to send him a "care package" containing one piece of soap-on-a-rope, and an insulting letter or postcard.
Can I send this to him, or will it be opened, read, and discarded by the jail employees? Can I get in trouble myself for doing this (free speech and all that jazz, right?)

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • oh i forgot to say something else. word gets around in jail...people know what each other are incarcerated for. sexual abuse, especially concerning young girls, doesn't go over well with other inmates. there are people in there with little daughters at home, so rest assured, this enemy of yours will have a VERY hard time in jail, if he even lives to speak of it.

  • Some prisons won't allow inmates to have mail from people not on the prisoner's list (except for legal stuff).

  • Maybe just send a picture of the soap on a rope and print it on plain white paper in color. Just send it and write your letter on the back of it. He will get it.

  • I can't imagine he'd be very happy with you if he was released...

  • well, the rope may be confiscated to prevent him from hanging himself. Also, prisons around here, you can only buy things such as soap from the commissary. I know that prisons around here also read the letters sent to inmates because of things like illegal information.

  • I don't know about in the US, but here in the UK to give someone a gift you need to personally deliver it to the prison. If you've got his address, you can send him a letter but the staff will read it, and if there is anything too incriminating or hateful they will discard it I'm sure.

  • Everything sent to inmates is screened. They can only receive letters and a limited number of pictures. All other items are confiscated and disposed of.

  • Why? If he were my enemy I'd want him to be dropping the soap all the time!!!!

  • I think you can. They might confiscate the rope so he doesn't hang himself but it should go through. You def won't get in trouble.
